Troy Foulger Wins Bill Bowers Memorial Race At Antioch Speedway
Antioch, CA...September 27...Troy Foulger of Oakley won the 40 lap IMCA Modified Main Event Saturday night at Antioch Speedway. This was the Sixth Annual Bill Bowers Memorial race, and Foulger made his winning move around Ryan McDaniel of Olivehurst on Lap 31. This was his second win in this race, earning him $2,049 for his winning effort.
The race had to be restarted when Andrew Pearce of Oakley stalled on the back straightaway. McDaniel led Foulger and Bakersfield's Gavyn Manning on the restart. Nick Baldwin of Oakley spun in Turn 3 for what would be the final yellow flag on Lap 2. McDaniel led Manning and Foulger on the restart, but Foulger made a low pass in Turn 4 of the seventh lap to move back into second. McDaniel held about a straightaway advantage by then. McDaniel was dealing with slower traffic by Lap 15, and Foulger began slowly chipping away at the lead. By the time McDaniel caught two slower cars on Lap 26, Foulger had closed in on him and was looking for a way by.
A low move in Turn 4 of the 31st lap put Foulger into the lead. Manning had closed in on the lead duo. McDaniel stayed close to Foulger and was looking for a way around him on the outside. On the final lap, the two leaders caught a slower car in Turn 4, and contact from McDaniel sent Paul Guglielmoni of Vacaville spinning. Foulger scored the well-earned victory ahead of McDaniel. Bobby Hogge IV of Salinas made a low pass in Turn 2 of the 36th lap to take third from Manning as Manning and Josh Combs of Roseville rounded out the Top 5.
Fred Ryland of Brentwood won the 20 lap IMCA Sport Modified Main Event. He collected $1,049 for his victory, and it was his second win in this event.
After a frontstretch crash forced a complete restart, Ryland charged into the lead ahead of Buddy Kniss of Oakley and Trevor Clymens of Brentwood. Ryland pulled away from the pack, leaving the closer battle between Kniss and Clymens. The final yellow flag flew on Lap 10 for Chris Falkenberg of Turlock in Turn 2. Ryland continued to lead Kniss and Clymens on the restart, but Clymens made a backstretch pass on Lap 13 to claim second. Oakley's Jason Ryan Jr moved in to battle Kniss for third with the two exchanging the position several times before Ryan grabbed it for good on Lap 19. Ryland cruised to victory ahead of Clymens, Ryan, Kniss and Mark Garner of Antioch.
Troy Foulger of Oakley won the 20 lap IMCA Stock Car Main Event. This was his fourth win of the season and his fifth win in this particular race.
Justin Villanueva of Atwater set the early pace ahead of Atwater's Mike Villanueva. Foulger settled into third on Lap 2 and made a Turn 4 pass a lap later to take second from Mike Villanueva. The first half of the race ran rapidly with no yellow flags, and Foulger made an inside pass on the backstretch on Lap 12 to take the lead from Justin Villanueva. Track champion Fred Ryland of Brentwood had made his way into third by then. The only yellow flag waved for Terry DeCarlo Jr of Martinez on the backstretch on Lap 17.
The slowdown didn't matter as Foulger resumed command over Justin Villanueva on the restart. Mike Villanueva charged past Ryland for the third spot, and Foulger won ahead of Justin Villanueva, Mike Villanueva, Kenneth Robles of Rio Vista and Mitch Enos of Manteca. The finishing order was shuffled when Mike Villanueva was disqualified in tech and Enos failed to report. This moved Robles into third ahead of Ryland and DeCarlo.
James Thomson of Pittsburg won the 20 lap Pacific Coast Hobby Stock Main Event. This was his second win of the season, and he became the third different winner in as many Bill Bowers Memorial races for this division.
Hunter Hammett of Oakley took the early lead, but he spun in Turn 3 for a Lap 3 yellow flag. Taylor DeCarlo of Martinez led Maddie Motts of San Pablo on the restart with Andrew Peckham of Grass Valley settling into third on Lap 7. A yellow flag waved on Lap 8 for a Tod Alonso of Washington Terrace, Utah spin. Thomson took the lead from DeCarlo on the restart, and Anthony Vigna of Concord hit the Turn 2 wall for a Lap 16 yellow flag.
DeCarlo challenged Thomson hard on the restart, but he still managed to lead the lap. A final yellow flag waved on Lap 18 when Chester Kniss of Antioch spun in Turn 4. Thomson led DeCarlo on the restart, and they finished in that order. However, DeCarlo was disqualified in post-race tech, moving Jared Baugh of Pittsburg into second, followed by Adriane Frost of Watsonville, Jewell Crandall of Antioch and Hammett.
The track will go dark this week to allow the racers to compete in the Pettit Memorial Dirt Track Shootout at Watsonville. Racing resumes on October 11th with the second and final appearance of the NARC Winged 410 Sprint Cars. The USAC and BCRA Midgets will also be competing that night.
