Antioch Speedway Monster Truck Event A Roaring Success
By Candice Martin
Antioch, CA...March 29...The decision by Promoters Chad and Tina Chadwick to schedule a Monster Truck show as the opening event of the year proved to be perhaps the biggest move the duo has made so far. A date on the 2x Monster Truck Tour became available, and Antioch Speedway was smart enough to book it. This resulted in perhaps the biggest crowd in the history of the speedway.
The 2x Monster Truck Tour does things a little bit differently than the Malicious Monster Trucks, which have been on the speedway's schedule during the previous four years. This group schedules two events in one day, something that has never been attempted at the Antioch track before. It turns out that the Monster Trucks performed in front of sellout crowds for the matinee and evening showings.
The group came fully loaded with six performance trucks, including legendary Monster Truck driver Dennis Anderson aboard King Sling. Other competitive trucks included Roarin Rex, Shark Bite, Jekyll and Hyde, Bounty Hunter and Play'n For Keeps. They also provided four ride along Monster Trucks, which would pretty much go non-stop from the time the gate opened until the show was over.
In addition to that, two motorcycle riders were on hand to perform several stunts as they jumped high in the air. At intermission, children who brought power wheel cars competed in races on the front straightaway. The show was non-stop entertainment from the beginning.
The pit party at the start saw the drivers meeting the fans in front of their respective trucks in the infield. They posed for pictures and signed autographs for an hour and a half before each show began. After that, they made last minute preparations, and the show really got going.
The drivers competed in various contests, to the delight of the crowd. This included several jumps, front wheel and rear wheel stands, one on one racing and freestyle. Crowd cheers picked the winners of various contests. They saved the best for last, and the loud roar of approval from the fans in the grandstands showed how they felt about it.
It goes without saying that this was the biggest Monster Truck event in the track's history and the biggest attendance in recent memory or quite possibly ever. As fans were leaving, they were heard asking when the Monster Trucks will be in town again. Needless to say, the 2x Monster Truck Tour was a major hit with a crowd that in some cases came from more than two hours away to be a part of this special event.
The 65th championship season at Antioch Speedway formally begins this Saturday night. With a power issue resulting in the cancellation of an event in Stockton, Antioch management has been able to officially add Late Models to the schedule, featuring the Xtreme Late Model Series.
The originally scheduled IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds, IMCA Stock Cars and Pacific Coast Hobby Stocks will also be a part of this five division show. The speedway will continue to offer $15 General Admission ticket prices for adults as was the case at the end of 2024.
