Tuttle Wins Wild Hunt Series Main Event At Antioch Speedway

Antioch, CA...July 27...Jacob Tuttle of Oakley won the 25 lap Hunt Wingless Spec Sprint Main Event Saturday night at Antioch Speedway. The current Antioch Speedway point leader used his second win in the Hunt Series to maintain his lead in that championship battle.

Following their eight lap heat race wins, Roseville's Josh Young and Tuttle shared the front row for the feature race. Young managed to grab the lead and led for several laps with Tuttle in close pursuit. reigning series champion DJ Johnson began to make a move in the final 10 laps. The Stockton racer got around Tuttle and then attempted an inside move exiting Turn 2 to take the lead from Young.

This resulted in a bit of contact and Young getting into the wall, collecting championship contender Shawn Arriaga of Antioch in the process. Young was eliminated and Arriaga had to restart in the back as part of the accident. Officials put Johnson back behind Tuttle and his Fonkenbinder Racing teammate Blake Bower of Brentwood for the restart. Tuttle would lead the remaining circuits to win ahead of Bower, Young, Bob Newberry of Brentwood and Anthony Bruno of San Jose.

Dylan Connelly of Antioch won the 20 lap IMCA Sport Modified Main Event. This was his second win of the season, and he did it in flag to flag fashion in the non-stop race.

When the green flag waved, Connelly charged into the lead ahead of Oakley's Tommy Clymens. Championship hopeful Jason Ryan Jr of Oakley quickly moved into third and set his sights on the consistent Clymens. Clymens was hitting all of his marks on the bottom groove as Connelly led the way. Ryan's attempts to get by Clymens continued to be thwarted before a yellow flag waved on the 12th circuit.

This might have been Ryan's opportunity to get past Clymens, but Connelly continued to lead Clymens and Ryan on the restart. On the 18th circuit, Ryan went around the outside of Clymens in the fourth turn to grab second. Clymens spun in the same turn a lap later without a yellow flag. Connelly sped home to victory ahead of Ryan, point leader Kenny Shrader at Pacheco, Kelly Campanile of Oakley and Trevor Clymens of Brentwood.

Clarence Holbrook III of Galt won the 20 lap Pacific Coast Hobby Stock Main Event. The incoming point leader had seen some of his advantage erased by reigning Merced Speedway champion Ryan Hart of Dos Palos, but his third win of the season kept him in the lead in the the close Antioch championship battle.

Following their heat race wins, Jared Baugh of Pittsburg, Hart and Holbrook started in the front two rows along with Antioch's Jewell Crandall. Baugh was coming off of his win in the Dean Cline Classic two weeks ago. Unfortunately, he had problems drop him from contention and outside the Top 10 at the finish. Holbrook would end up leading the way ahead of Hart, and they would score the 1-2 finish. Crandall had a season-best third place finish in only her fifth start of the year, followed by Petaluma point leader James Thomson of Pittsburg and Maddie Mott's of San Pablo.

Bryant Bell of Oakley won the 20 lap WMR Midgets Main Event. Bell is the current series point leader, and this was his seventh victory of the season. He also picked up a win a night earlier in Watsonville.

Bell found himself starting in the fifth row for the race as six lap heat race winners Terry Nichols of Delano and Anthony Bruno of San Jose started up front with Micro Sprint star Aniyah Scott of Brentwood. Bruno ended up taking the lead as Bell rapidly worked his way to the front. Bell would overtake Bruno and score the satisfying win. Bruno settled for second ahead of championship contender Logan Mitchell of Santa Cruz, Nichols and Todd Hawse of Moor Park.

Tom Brown of Santa Rosa won the 20 lap Mini Stock Main Event. This was the second win of the season for the two-time Antioch Speedway champion as he moved into a four-point lead over reigning champion Tom Davis of Los Molinos.

Brown picked up the win in the six lap heat race, but it was Davis charging into the lead at the start of the feature. Davis led for seven circuits before Brown made his way by. However, Davis continued to apply pressure on Brown for the next half-dozen laps. Brown would eventually prevail in this battle and brought it home to victory ahead of Davis, Matt Wirth of Oakland, Jackie Price of Antioch.

Racing resumes next Saturday night with the second annual Fan Appreciation Night event, which will feature a $5 general admission price. The IMCA Modifieds, Sport Modifieds and Stock Cars will be competing along with the Wingless Spec Sprints and Pacific Coast Hobby Stocks. For further information, go to www.raceantiochspeedway.com.
