Hogge Scores 80th Career Antioch Speedway Win In IMCA Modified All Star Challenge

Antioch, CA...May 17...Bobby Hogge IV of Salinas won the 25 lap IMCA Modified Main Event Saturday night at Antioch Speedway. This was the first round of the six-race IMCA Modified All Star Challenge, which has two races each and Antioch, Watsonville and Merced. It was also the 80th career Antioch win for Hogge, putting him on top of the track's all time combined Main Event winner's leader board.

Jonathan Hagio a Prunedale led the first two laps before Hogge found a way by for the lead. A yellow flag waved for Jacob Mallet Jr of Oakley on the back straightaway on Lap 7. Hogge continued to lead with Cody Burke of Salinas moving into second, but a yellow flag waved again on Lap 8. On this restart, incoming point leader Troy Foulger of Oakley moved into second behind a Hogge.

Another yellow flag waved for a Turn 4 tangle on Lap 9, but Hogge maintained command ahead of Foulger and Josh Combs of Roseville on the restart. The final 15 laps saw a pair of yellow flags, but each time Hogge pulled ahead of Foulger to maintain the lead. As Hogge sped on to victory, Foulger held off Combs for second. Friday night Watsonville winner Jim Pettit II of Prunedale ended up fourth, followed by Hagio.

Aidan Ponciano of Oakley won the 20 lap Pacific Coast Hobby Stock Main Event. Ponciano has had an up and down season in which he scored a win in his own ride earlier in the year but has also had various bad luck moments. On this night, he was driving the Jared Baugh car.

Antioch's Todd Gomez made his season debut by jumping into the early lead ahead of Brentwood's Grayson Baca. Ponciano and Michaela Taylor of Oakley were running side by side for third. Ponciano moved by Baca for second on the sixth lap, and a yellow flag waved for a tangle between Kevin Brown of Oakley, Maddie Motts of San Pablo and Trevor Clymens of Brentwood. Gomez continued to lead Ponciano and Taylor on the restart.

There was an intense battle for the lead with Ponciano looking for a way around Gomez. An inside move on the frontstretch of the 13th lap put Ponciano into the lead. Gomez tried a daring move on the inside in Turn 4, but he was unable to slide back in front. Ponciano steadily pulled away and brought it home to victory. Gomez settled for second ahead of Baca, James East of Oakley and Larry McKinzie Jr of Discovery Bay.

Trevor Clymens of Brentwood won the 20 lap IMCA Sport Modified Main Event. This was his first win of the season and his 28th career feature victory in the division. The three-time champion led from the outset.

When the green flag waved, Clymens led fellow Brentwood resident Fred Ryland and Al Johnson of Pittsburg. However, Johnson spun at the end of the straightaway for a yellow flag. Clymens continued to lead the restart with State point leader Danny Wagner of Bay Point moving into second. Following a yellow flag on Lap 6, incoming point leader Kenny Shrader of Pacheco moved into second behind Clymens with Oakley's Jason Ryan Jr charging into third.

Despite multiple yellow flags during the second half of the race, Clymens kept his cool on each restart and would bring it home a happy winner. Shrader settled for second. Yreka's Bo Crebs gained third on a Lap 18 restart and took a checkered flag there. After the post race disqualification of Crebs, Ryan ended up third, followed by rookie Trent Golden of Pittsburg and Tommy Cltymens Jr of Oakley.

Fred Ryland of Brentwood won the 20 lap IMCA Stock Car Main Event. The race was destined to go without a yellow flag, and Ryland led all but the opening lap for his second-straight win in the division.

Jake Archibald of Brentwood led the opening lap before Ryland slipped underneath him in Turn 4 to gain the lead. Kenneth Robles of Rio Vista moved into second on Lap 3. Ryland began to build a huge lead and led by a straightaway at the halfway mark. Ryland went on to victory ahead of Robles, Archibald, State point leader Austin Van Hoff of Chowchilla and Chester Kniss of Oakley.

Tom Brown of Santa Rosa won the 15 lap Mini Stock Main Event. The current Antioch and Petaluma point leader and reigning champion withstood an early challenge from Fernley, Nevada visitor Angelo Rallo to score the victory.

Brown set the early pace ahead of Matt Wirth of Oakland. Rallo moved into second on a Lap 2 restart and started making a challenge on Brown immediately. Rallo got a run on the outside as they went down the frontstretch, but they made contact. Both drivers backed off and Brown remained the leader as Wirth moved into second. Rallo passed Wirth on the backatretch to reclaim second on Lap 9. Ryder Holmen hit the Turn 4 wall for the final yellow flag on Lap 13 to end his run. Brown led the restart and the remaining circuits to win ahead of Angelo Rallo, Wirth, Fernley, Nevada's Dominic Rallo and Jackie Price of Antioch.

After a one week break, racing resumes on May 31st with the Larry Damitz Memorial race. The Tri State Pro Stock Challenge Series will make their first of three appearances, joined by the Late Models, Wingless Spec Sprints, RaceSaver Sprint Cars, Dwarf Cars and 600 Micro Sprints.
